Well....we
have had an interesting few days. We have finished driving
through Florida and have now visited some of Alabama. We found
a nice park just outside of Mobile, Alabama. We were given
strict instructions on where NOT to go etc....and no-one could really
give us any good places to see or things to
do.........so................off we went to the flea market!!! :)
There were 700 stands and it was fun to walk around it, despite
the very cold weather!! We all had gloves and jackets on and
were still cold!
Then
off to the Visitor Centre in downtown Mobile. It has Fort Conde
attached to it, so we took a quick look at that. It gave us an idea of what life was like 300 years ago.
Then
off we went to the History Museum of Mobile and had a good time looking
around. This is the Mardi Gras Exhibit.
The
boys checking out the comic section.
Then
taking a turn spinning the prop of a submarine.
On
the way in and out of Mobile we had a great view of the USS Alabama battleship.
This
is THE Carnival cruise ship that was stranded out in the Gulf of Mexico with
engine "issues" about a month ago. The ship was towed
to the dry dock here in Mobile.
Our
campground.
If you are still there stop by the battleship and it's gift store. We met a retired Colonel there who had survived the Bataan Death March and was signing books he had written about it. I think he's somewhat of a regular there. - Mike Boyink
