~Pelicans, Pancakes & Snorkeling ~

Well....we finally made it to the Keys!  The drive from the Everglades was beautiful and the water started turning that amazing turquoise colour.   The scenery was so lovely!

We stayed in an RV park in Marathon.   It was right on the ocean, had a great pool and was about an hour away from Key West.
It had a little marina attached to it and a fish cleaning station too.
This is the dock and swimming area.   You could even snorkel there if it was calm.
These beautiful pelicans were on all of the posts - mostly waiting for the fisherman to come in and give them the "scraps".   They were hilarious - every time we lifted our arms they would all open up their wings and get ready to catch our "invisible" food!  :)

Isn't this such a great relaxing area?
What a funny sign!

The kids all having fun in the pool.
The sign says it all.................................. of course we were there!!!   We decided to go there for brekkie and then head to the beach afterwards.

Unfortunately Todd had to work so was unable to join us.
Such a nice treat for us all!   Thanks IHOP!
Next stop beautiful Bahia Honda State Park.   That is the new Bahia Honda bridge in the background - it is 7 miles long and quite a site to see and to drive over!  We sat on the beach and the kids were so excited about trying to snorkel.   The water was a bit chilly, but they had fun.
That is the old bridge in the background.

After our picnic lunch we decided to venture over to the other side of the park and try the water over there.
This side had more waves so some of the kids did some boogie boarding and the others went quite far out snorkeling - so much fun!

We had a such a great day but while jumping in the waves our dear friend Zach landed on something sharp (glass we think) and sliced open his foot so there was quite a bit of panic as we tried to round everyone up, gather all our stuff and then find a medical clinic/hospital in the area for Steph to take him to.  He was so brave through it all, but came away with 7 stitches in his foot - SO sorry Zach that you were hurt!!
