~World's Largest Covered Bridge~

On our way out of Woodstock we stopped in Hartland where we saw the world's longest covered bridge - 1282 ft.  An uncovered wooden bridge lasted only 15 years before rot weakened its deck planks.  Often horses, travelling over were frightened by the rushing waters that they could see through the floor and then bolted.  So roofs and siding were added to the bridges and they were good for 80 years.
