We had a lovely day in Halifax. We drove into the capital of Nova Scotia which is also Atlantic Canada's largest city and we walked along the beautiful waterfront. There are numerous boat tours, cruise ships, farmers markets etc.... A bustling port city.
After the waterfront we drove to the Halifax Citadel - A National Historic Site. At the summit of 77 metre high Citadel Hill the ramparts of the star-shaped fort recall the city's military past.
We watched the changing of the guard and then had our photos taken with the very serious guard!!
As usual Becky tried to do something goofy and put her arm around him and attempted to make him laugh!! No luck!
We had a chance to walk in the fort as well as walk around the wall. There were canons everywhere. The view of Halifax Harbour was so beautiful.
We enjoyed walking in all the different rooms too. This is the soldier's barracks. The kids were able to see the hard beds, heavy clothes, cutlery and other items used by the soldiers during this time period. The boys were able to try on the knapsack and felt how heavy it was for them.
This is the tailor shop where we were given a talk about how the clothing was made. It was so great as the kids were able to try different clothing items on.
The guard at the entrance of the fort made us all feel very safe!!! :)
At the school house the schoolmaster gave us an interesting talk about school in those days.
This is the Old Town Clock which is at the base of Citadel Hill.
