We had another great day watching the tides. This time we were in Maitland and they had a lovely viewing platform (that used to be an old railway bridge) that we were able to see the river from. We had to arrive there about 1/2 hour early in order to see the tide "roll" in. As you can see from this first photo the area around the water is all mudflats. People actually slide down the flats when the tide is low - (you can check it out on Youtube). The bridge is very high so the water doesn't go over it during high tide.
We stayed and watched the water come in (about 1 1/2 hrs) and cover the mudflats, spread and then rise up the bridge. The water rises 17ft in 20 minutes - quite unbelievable. When the tide is fully in, it will have risen 37ft!! Sometimes in the spring it can rise up to 55ft.
Aye, very interestin'
