~Acadia National Park~

Today we visited beautiful Acadia National Park in Maine.  The scenery was spectacular with amazing granite rock formations, tranquil lakes and ponds, mountain peaks and islands among the ocean waves.   We drove the Park Loop Road which took us by many natural attractions and gorgeous views.  This is Sand Beach - the park's only sandy beach on the ocean.  The ocean temperature was approximately 14 degrees celsius (which is a whole lot warmer than the ocean at home!!) which is considered cold for the local people.

The scenery was just so beautiful
We drove up to Cadillac Mountain - the summit being 1 530 feet.  What an incredible view from the top.  Cadillac Mountain is the park's highest peak, but it is also the tallest mountain on the Atlantic coast north of Brazil.  We had a panoramic view.   Below is the quaint town of Bar Harbor and that is a cruise ship in the distance.
This is Thunder Hole.  When the high tide sweeps into this channel, the air becomes trapped and escapes with a thunderous noise.   Unfortunately it was 3 hrs after high tide so we just heard a little noise -still spectacular though.

We went for a walk down to the ocean from our rv park.  It was so quiet and still and we found some beautiful shells on the beach.
The scenery here at Acadia and on the coast of Maine is very similar to home and we LOVE it!  What we did learn from visiting this area is that we as British Columbian's are so extremely blessed to live on the west coast with all its beauty.  May we never take it for granted.
