The other day we were able to visit beautiful St. Augustine, FL. On September 8, 2015, the city will commemorate its 450th anniversary as the oldest continually occupied European settlement in the USA. WOW!
We walked through the city gates into the old part of town - cobble stone streets and quaint stores, bakeries, coffee shops, etc...This is the lovely waterfront area of St. Augustine. This is the Matanzas River.
We then visited the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument ( the oldest masonry fort in the US) and learned a bit about the history, battles etc...
We were able to watch a demonstration by the Spanish on how they fired the canon.
A lovely view of the waterfront from the top of the fort.
There are trolley tours everywhere in St. Augustine.
Flagler College in the distance.
Then off to the amazing, huge, soft sandy white beach of St Augustine - all you can say is W O W !!This is a fast food restaurant but you first get greeted at the door, then you order your food and within minutes it is brought to you by some very friendly waiters. They keep on asking you if there is anything else you need and then give you wipes and a mint for the end of the meal. When you say thank you....they always say "My pleasure" !!
The burgers are made with a real chicken breast and you can choose from various sauces, ketchup, mayo etc.. to put on it. We also ordered the waffle fries which were AMAZING!! Thanks so much for the wonderful treat!
