~Savannah Wildlife Refuge, SC~

We had such a fantastic day yesterday.   In the afternoon we visited Savannah National Wildlife Refuge.  We were hoping once again to find some alligators.  We drove the 4 mile loop around the park and got out several times to walk some of the trails.
There are piles of fire ants everywhere you go in South Carolina.    OUCH - Brad stepped in a pile today - fortunately not for too long, but he did get a few red marks on his ankles.
We were not disappointed with the amount of gators we saw - 20 in all !!!!   On one of the trails we had the canal on both sides of the dyke and the gators could come right up where we walked.   We actually were a bit nervous about it all.  We had only just started our walk and saw this nice big one "sunning himself" on the sand.  They look like they are dead and just blink every now and then - quite amazing.

This is the path we were walking along - we saw this black shadow and as we got closer we realized it was another one - we chose to turn around and go back to the car as the first one we saw could have easily come up onto the dyke and then we would have been stuck in the middle of them!!!
Some were swimming......
some were just babies.
The place was FULL of incredible birds and wildlife.
Lots of beautiful oak trees on our drive.
He's in there - taking a dip!!
It was such a lovely, warm day and we enjoyed "searching" for the gators while walking on the trails and driving through the refuge.
